Dr. Marco Fekrat graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from University of California, Riverside and earned both his Master of Arts degree (M.A.) and Doctorate of Psychology degree (Psy.D.) from the California School of Professional Psychology, Irvine. Dr. Fekrat is a Licensed Psychologist (PSY 30209) and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFC 50328) with over 15 years of experience working as a psychotherapist.
Dr. Fekrat is multicultural and multilingual (English, German, and Farsi), and he has lived in the United States, Germany and Iran. This allows him to understand the impact of migration, interracial/intercultural/interfaith marriages, acculturation challenges, and cultural differences in human behavior and thought.
Dr. Fekrat has provided psychoanalytically and systemically informed clinical supervision to Master’s level Marriage and Family Therapist interns for San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center. He has also previously served as a Program Manager at the Institute for Multicultural Counseling and Education Services (IMCES) and San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center Inc. (SFVCMHC).
His extensive experience includes: working with children and adolescents diagnosed with Autism Spectrum disorder, working with adults diagnosed with various Psychotic disorders, the LGBTQ community, artists, those in the entertainment industry seeking help with creative blocks, career transitions, and industry related pressures, and immigrant, first generation, and newly emigrated individuals and couples working through cultural assimilation and identity issues. In addition, Dr. Fekrat has experience working in Forensics at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Though he primarily works from a psychodynamic orientation, his approach to therapy is eclectic, in that he draws from a wide range of therapeutic modalities in treatment including: cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, and family systems.
Dr. Fekrat has extensive experience working with individuals and couples seeking help with dating and relationship issues and for several years worked as a relationship expert at eHarmony.
Dr. Fekrat also specializes in providing comprehensive psychological and forensic evaluations for a variety of conditions including Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), learning disabilities, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), civil and criminal competency.
